| Ancistrus ranunculus inhabits clear slow-moving water to a depth of 3 meters. In the wild they prefer narrow cracks between submerged rocks or spaces below flat rocks on the bottom. This being the case, they should be supplied with a similar environment in captivity. Like other plecos, Ancistrus species will eat just about anything that makes its way to the bottom of the aquarium. Keep an eye on your pleco for the first few weeks to ensure they are eating well, since most are wild-caught and may have trouble adjusting to captive life. Males can sometimes be differentiated from females by the fact that males normally have more "bristles" on their nose than females. |
