Aphyocharax anisitsi (Bloodfin Tetra)
Family: Characidae
Maximum Size: 2" (5.5cm)
Distribution: The Parana River basin of South America (Brazil, Paraguay and Argentina)
Temperature Range: 64-82oF (18-28oC)
pH Range: 6 to 8
Water Hardness: up to 30.0 dKh
Aphyocharax anisitsiThese lively little fish swim mainly in the upper and middle water layers of the aquarium. In the wild, they feeds primarily on worms, small insects, and crustaceans. An apropriate captive diet should include brine shrimp, blood worms, tubifex, and other meaty foods, though they will readily accept dried and flake foods. They are peaceful, active, and social. Because Aphyocharax anisitsi is a social fish, they should be kept in schools of at least four fish. Obviously, they are great community fish. There are reports that this species breeds readily in aquariums, but the eggs should be collected immediately and the fry reared in a separate tank. Feed the fry with finely ground flake food or newly hatched brine shrimp.
