Corydoras ambiacus is often misidentified at C. agassizi because they are both spotted and occur in some of the same water ways. There are several subtle differences between the two species that can be used to differentiate them, including the more rounded muzzle of the C. agassizii. Also, while both are spotted, C. ambiacus tends to have smaller spots and a blotch on the dorsal fin that bleeds down onto the body. The dorsal spot on C. agassizii is confined to the dorsal fin. Like all Corydoras, C. ambiacus is most comfortable in a group of its own kind, and so should be kept in groups of four to six. They really do a great job of keeping the substrate clear of uneaten food, especially in a group. Another excellent addition to any peaceful community tank. |
