Who is that masked fish? Why, it's Corydoras metae, the "Bandit Corydoras!" This fish prefers to have some open gravel swimming space, shaded by large broadleaf plants. A rocky cave or other secure hiding place is also apreciated. C. metae will readily take prepared foods. In the wild they feed mainly on insect larvae and small crustaceans, so bloodworms or other meaty foods should be offered at least occasionally to ensure good health. This species has been successfully bred in home aquariums, laying about 20-30 eggs that are deposited on the undersides of leaves or on the aquarium glass. |
