 I can not stress enough that this is a gamefish and foodfish - not an aquarium fish. H. vittatus and the other Hydrocynids can easily grow to be well over 3 feet long. An aquarium would have to be several hundred (thousand?) gallons to house the fish appropriately. In the wild they form roving schools of similarly sized fish. Hydrocynids are fierce and voracious piscivores. It will feed on whatever prey is available. If you do disregard all sensible advice and try to keep one of these fish in a home aquarium, at least remember that they will eat anything in the tank with them! |
