Lamprologus tretocephalus (also known as Neolamprologus tretocephalus) occurs in shallow regions of Lake Tanganyika over open sand beds. Their natural diet consists primarily of mollusks. The aquarium for L. tretocephalus must be large (minumum of 90 gallons) because this species demands a large territory and requires ample space. The aquarium should be aquascaped with enough rocks to give the females plenty of places to hide from the male. This fish also needs a fair amount of open sandy bottom to patrol. Feed L. tretocephalus a meaty diet, but do include some vegetable matter, like spirulina flakes or pellets. This species is not well suited to community tanks and is best kept in a single species display, or at least with few other aggressive Tanganyikan cichlids in a very large tank. |
