Pseudotropheus demasoni is a relatively new species in the aquarium hobby. They are popular fish for cichlid community tanks due to their small size and attractive coloring. Like most Pseudotropheus sp., P. demasoni should be fed a diet rich in vegetable matter and low in protein. Any protein fed to them should be of marine and not terrestrial origin (i.e. beef heart is out). It is good if there is some healthy algal growth on rocks and other decorations for the fish to graze on. As a treat they can be fed frozen or live brine shrimp. As with all Mbuna, provide plenty of rockwork for them to shelter in and establish territories. Unlike other members of their genus, P. demasoni have no sexual dimorphism, which makes sexing this fish a challenge. The males do tend to be slightly larger and more brightly colored than the females. |
